The Sony Xperia 1 III was launched in India on April 14, 2021. The smartphone’s equipped with striking features and specifications.
Japanese tech giant Sony has unveiled its latest flagship smartphones, the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III.
Both the handsets offer a 120Hz OLED screen, a Snapdragon 888 chipset, and a 240Hz motion blur reduction in supported games. They also sport T-coated ZEISS lenses, including a variable telephoto camera with up to 108mm focal length.
In terms of specifications, the Xperia 1 III will come with a 6.5-inch 21:9 CinemaWide 4K HDR OLED flat display with extremely thin bezels as well as a slim forehead and chin. The display is the same as its predecessor Xperia 1 II.
In terms of camera, the smartphone will feature a ZEISS triple lens setup at the back including in addition to a 3D iToF sensor. Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III feature a conventional rectangular screen with thin top and bottom bezels and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
The former bears a 6.5-inch 4K (1644×3840 pixels) OLED screen, whereas the latter has a 6.1-inch Full-HD+ (1080×2520 pixels) OLED display.
They offer a 21:9 aspect ratio, a 120Hz refresh rate, an IP65/68-rated build quality, and HDR support.
Cameras: They flaunt a 12MP ultra-wide lens with autofocus
Sony Xperia 5 III packs a 12MP (f/1.7) primary sensor, a 12MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide lens with autofocus, and a 12MP variable telephoto camera with f/2.3 (70mm) to f/2.8 (105mm) aperture and OIS support.
The Xperia 1 III offers a similar camera module but with an additional 3D ToF sensor.
For selfies, the duo has an 8MP (f/2.0) front-facing snapper.
Fact: The handsets also feature AI super resolution zoom
The Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III offer AI super-resolution zoom with support for 300mm of digital zoom length along with real-time Eye AF and Optical SteadyShot. They also support 4K recording at 120fps for slow-motion videos.
Internals: They draw power from a Snapdragon 888 processor
Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III are powered by a Snapdragon 888 chipset, combined with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage.
Under the hood, they run on Android 11 and pack a 4,500mAh battery with 30W fast-charging support.
The duo also offers support for Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, a headphone jack, and a Type-C port.
Fact: The devices come with Rewind time recording
Sony Xperia 1 III and 5 III boast of a feature called Rewind time recording, wherein the software continuously records the last 30 seconds of the game and when you hit record, it rewinds the game and saves the highlight.

Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III’s pricing details are yet to be announced. The duo will be made available “at the start of this summer” which begins from June in Japan.
The former will be offered in Frosted Black, Frosted Gray, and Frosted Purple color options, whereas the Xperia 5 III will come in Black, Green, and Pink color variants.
