An Air India flight that took off at 1:38 PM from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport crashed shortly after takeoff. The aircraft, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, was flying from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick.

The plane was carrying 230 passengers, including 169 Indians, 53 British, 7 Portuguese, and one Canadian. So far, only 1 person survived as per reports.

The plane crashed in a residential area near Meghaninagar, causing a tragic incident. The area included offices and hostels, which led to more casualties.

Pilots issued a MAYDAY call, making it their final contact before the crash. Aircraft reached a maximum speed of only 174 knots and climbed to an altitude of 825 feet.

Emergency services like ambulance, fire trucks, six teams of NDRF and police units quickly responded and started rescuing the victims.

Capt. Sumeet Sabharwal commanded Flight AI171, with First Officer Clive Kundar as co-pilot.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deepest condolences, calling the incident “heartbreaking beyond words.”

The Prime Minister added in sad words “The tragedy in Ahmedabad has stunned and saddened us. It is heartbreaking beyond words. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with everyone affected by it. Have been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected”.

Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to CM Bhupendra Patel following the Ahmedabad Plane Crash.

Tata Group expressed grief for the families who lost their loved ones. The company announced a compensation of ₹1 crore and committed to covering the medical expenses of the injured.

Ahmedabad Airport reopens after it stopped flight operations temporarily due to the crash.
