Recently a lot of Mac users noticed orange smudge on the Macbook pro screen. And this is becoming a common issue often referred to as MacBook screen glitch.

It’s quite irritating that an orange spot appears out of nowhere on the screen. The issue is alarming but it’s not the end of your Macbook. There are simple steps to deal with these spots which pop out on your Mac.

Can Apple Fix Screen Discoloration for Free?

Apple may fix the problem for free if your device linked to manufacturing defect and covered under Apple limited Warranty.

Let’s Understand Causes of Orange Spots:

Normally this orange spot appears due to heat or poor positioning of the laptop. Well there are also other speculations but I found these could be some genuine reasons.

Heating Issue

Many people push their MacBooks to the limit, leading to overheating. Others place their laptops in warm environments, making it difficult for the device to manage high temperatures.

Handling Issue

Pressing the screen too hard or closing the lid with objects (like a keyboard cover or earbuds) can cause pixel discoloration. Even forces applied when wiping the screen or poking accidentally may result in discoloration.

Try Some Potential Fixes

Run Some Diagnostics:

Start by running some diagnostic tests. If your Macbook powered by Apple Silicon then run these two diagnostic tools. First is Mac Resource Inspector (MRI) and second the Display Anomalies diagnostic suite.

First put Macbook into diagnostics mode. Hold the power button or Touch ID until “Loading startup options” appear. When that appears, press and hold Command + D to enter diagnostics mode.

Next visit Apple service diagnostics website, click on the blue Continue button and choose Mac. Enter your MacBook’s serial number. Agree to the terms on your MacBook, then choose the Mac Resource Inspector (MRI) and Display Anomalies tests. Follow the instructions on screen to run the tests.

Restart Your Macbook:

Just by restarting your laptop many minor issues are fixed. Sometimes a software glitch results in screen discoloration.

When to Seek Repair

If the spot doesn’t go away after resetting or diagnostics it’s better you bring your Macbook to Apple. To avoid further spreads.
