When making comments about minorities in India, the Ministry of External Affairs advised other nations to examine their own records first.
The Ministry of External Affairs denounced Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s comments as “misinformed and unacceptable” just hours after he stated that genuine Muslims could not overlook the “suffering” of Muslims in Gaza, India, and Myanmar.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei of Iran’s supreme leader’s remarks toward Indian Muslims have been deemed “unacceptable” by India. The Iranian leader compared Indian Muslims to those in Gaza in a post on X on the Prophet Mohammed’s birth day, discussing their pains.
“We cannot consider ourselves to be Muslims if we are oblivious to the suffering that a Muslim is enduring in Myanmar, Gaza, India, or any other place,” Khamenei said in a social media post on Monday.
In response, India’s foreign ministry said,
“We strongly deplore the comments made regarding minorities in India by the Supreme Leader of Iran,” the foreign ministry statement.
“Countries commenting on minorities are advised to look at their own record before making any observations about others,” the Indian foreign ministry spokesperson said.
India is developing the port of Chabahar on Iran’s southern coast, along the Gulf of Oman, to transport products to Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asia, bypassing Pakistan’s ports of Karachi and Gwadar.
In response to Khamenei’s statement, Israel’s Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, called him a “killer and oppressor” of his own people.
“@khamenei_ir you are a killer and oppressor of your own people. Muslims in Israel, India and all democracies enjoy freedom, which is denied in Iran. I wish the people of Iran will be free soon,” written by Azar.
Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has previously criticized India for problems concerning Indian Muslims and the problematic Kashmir area, which is populated mostly by Muslims.
India is closely connected to both countries. If West Asia produces 80% of the world’s oil, then Israel and the United States have a changing strategic partnership, particularly in terms of security and defense.
Teheran is the largest crude supplier in West Asia. Along with hopes for the Chabahar port, New Delhi and Teheran are also concerned about terrorism from Pakistan and Afghanistan.
