Ahmedabad School Stabbing Case
The incident happened in Seventh-Day Adventist Higher Secondary School. On Tuesday, as the last bell rang signaling the end of the school day, Nayan packed his bags and prepared to head home. But just as he stepped out of the school gate, he was surrounded by a group of boys, one of them, a Class 8 student, pulled out a knife, stabbed his senior, and fled the scene.
Despite being rushed to a hospital in Maninagar, Nayan succumbed to his injuries the same evening.
Instead of quick medical aid, what followed has left parents furious. Eyewitnesses claim the injured boy lay unattended for nearly half an hour. Instead of dialing an ambulance, the school allegedly summoned a water tanker to wash away the blood from the premises. Families accuse the administration of negligence, and even of attempting to tamper with evidence.
This alleged mishandling not only cost precious time in saving Nayan’s life but has also placed the school administration in the eye of a storm.
Anger Boils Over Into the Streets
The next day, grief turned into rage. Hundreds of parents, community members, and activists gathered outside the school demanding justice. Protests quickly escalated into violence, mobs vandalized classrooms, broke furniture, and clashed with police.
Protests stretched into a second day despite police restrictions, as Youth Congress and NSUI activists joined parents in demonstrations outside the school. Tensions flared when clashes erupted between residents, political workers, and security forces, prompting police to detain several agitators.
Digital Confession
Investigators uncovered WhatsApp and Instagram chats of the accused. Screenshots purportedly show him confessing to the attack, telling a friend that he had ‘killed’ his senior.
Bigger Questions That Remain
Are schools equipped to handle emergencies and conflicts among students?
How should society rehabilitate minors who commit heinous crimes?
What safeguards exist to prevent evidence mishandling in sensitive cases?
What happened in Ahmedabad is more than just a schoolyard fight, a young life has been cut short, another young boy now faces the law, and a community is left grappling with grief and anger.
